KOO/TAN ROBBED

The infamous GAVIN SMITH from England shows Koo the red card

Though the match between Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong against Hong Eei/Shen Ye was played at night, it was daylight robbery as so far as the Malaysian doubles pair were concerned as they exited the doubles competition at the All England Championships.

The sixth seeded Malaysians were sent packing, going down 21-12, 17-21, 20-22 in a match that lasted 59 minutes.

The defeat was a bitter pill to swallow as the Malaysian pair were shown a red card by the chair umpire, when the score was 20-20.

And that meant that the Chinese pair were not only awarded the serve but also a point and led 21-20. That shattered the Malaysians and they conceded the point and match and were visibly upset after the match, with Koo opting not to speak to the media, leaving it all to Tan to handle.

However putting aside the incident, the Malaysian pair had only themselves to blame as they led 19-16 in the decider but made several uncharacteristic mistakes.
